I enjoyed what you had to say about the focus on sensory aspects of sex and sensuality. I hadn’t noticed the lack of pronouns in With Teeth actually! I read the scenario as being between two men. If I had to guess why, I’d say it’s a bias from most narratives grounded in magic I’ve read centering a man protanist with man antagonist.

I am always thinking it, but I seldom see it acknowledged that the web requires physical infrastructure that comes with environmental, material, and human costs. In the same vein, your notes on worldbuilding seem to me to hold true for irl worldbuilding; in the narratives we tell ourselves in order to understand the world around us. Regarding tech, many see it as merely existing; a bulleted list of things you can use it for. The questions of “who made this? how does it work? How was it made? Where do the resources its made from come from?” are seldom discussed.
I feel deeply alienated and find it hard trying to connect with people irl for these reasons. I perceive somewhat of a total disinterest in understanding or engaging with the sociopolitical and economic undercurrents of the topics we discuss. Often, I think, this relates to how the answers to those questions make apparent the privilege of the end users apparent to them. From their perspective, the suffering and waste that one’s patterns of consumption produces didn’t exist until it is spoken into reality. Trying to meaningfully explore those subjects usually feels like I’m being a buzzkill, and I have a hard time connecting with others on a meaningful level when I have to avoid those lines of discussion for the sake of protecting their comfort.
